HUAHINE, FRENCH POLYNESIA

So, now I have left South East Asia for a while and will spend some time in French Polynesia and Hawaii. After traveling one month ”by myself” I joined my parents and will travel with them for 23 days.

We are starting at an island called Huahine which is a less explored island compared to Tahiti and Bora Bora. This island feels more genuine and there are not many turists here. We stay at a place called B&B Nature Reserve which is awesome. Almost everything here comes from the garden and the host treat us as King, Princess and Queen (he literally says that ^^ ). He takes care of us and offers us an other side of French Polynesia which the turists that actually come here will miss. The food here at the B&B is divine! The ingredients are organic which means it comes from the garden (fruits, herbs, spices and honey from his own bees) and the fish come from the sea.

During our second day here we decided to go with our host and do a whole day tour. We were out 8h and stopped at many places such as a museum where our host told us everything about the French Polynesian history, black perl farm, a local artist that does pareos, a distillery and a lot of nice places to see views and nature.

To get to the black perl farm we needed to take a boat to a floating shop where we could see a lot of beautiful jewellery made by pearls. We also got a demonstration of how they were created and harvest. – We are still thinking of going back to buy something 🙂

We also went over the brige that connects the big island with the smaller island. This passage is known for the whales that is passing. Sadly, we didn’t see any whales. It is apparently also popular for local youngsters to jump into the water. We saw it, they were crazy.. ^^

We stopped for lunch at a nice hotel which had the restaurant by the water in the sand. Really nice view! Because I have grown tired of the fried noodles and vegetables that I have gotten during my trip (the vegetarian option), I decided for a burger. A quite interesting one actually. With peanuts and mint. Really nice actually 😀

At the distillery we met the guy that creates a lot of different liqueurs. He was a kind but crazy guy that wanted us to try all his liqueurs. I think we tried at least 10-15 of them!! 😆 and not just a sip.. x) BUT, they were delicious! You can really tell that they were made with no chemicals and a lot of love.

Today we went out to scuba dive. At least my mum and I, while my father was snorkelling 🙂 The dive was 48 minutes long and was really nice! Saw a lot of fish in different colours and shapes. Super happy with the dive and the visibility was endless which is always nice! Sadly I still have problems with equalising.. After I popped my eardrum 4 years ago, it is still a problem 😕

Tomorrow we will go back to the city centre to do some shopping and after that go to the beach to swim, snorkel and dry up in the sand. – And hopefully get a tan too! 🙂
