MOOREA, FRENCH POLYNESIA

First thing you notice is that Moorea is much more developed and there are more tourists there. In difference to Huahine, we rented a car that we drove around the island. The place that we stayed was super nice and we got us a house cat (and sometimes house dogs ^^). They belonged to the place but they where really friendly 🙂

The first day at Moorea we decided to drive along the coast and explore the island. We went to the bay where James Cook arrived in late 18th century . The beach is the only beach on the island that is covered in lava sand (black sand). After we went to a nice viewpoint up in the mountains. We also went to a garden where we drank a 100% pineapple and ice smoothy. Later we went to a juice factory where we could try the local juices, liquors and cocktails from the island. After that we tried to get a late lunch, but realised that everything was closed. Kind of a siesta. We ended up eating at our place – ”ludda” (lunch-middag).

The next day we went to a place called Lagoonarium which was a beautiful place. It is a small island where corals and all kinds of fish are. You go there by boat and its so beautiful you could (and we did) spend the whole day there. Every 11:30 and 14:00 they feed the fish and if you thought there were a lot of fish before, then there were even more fish and rays AND sharks. The rays followed the guy around as if they were his dogs. They also did some tricks even though they were wild. Super nice and totally worth it!

The third day we went for a little shopping and diving. We dove at a place where the corals covered the whole surface. Really nice and we saw a lot of fish too. A turtle and a rare fish called Emperor angelfish.

The last day in French Polynesia we actually spent the day at the island Tahiti in the town Papeete and not in Moorea. We took the ferry over other island and spent some time at the local market. We also tried to go to a viewpoint where you will have a nice view over Papeete. Abanded that idea after 70% of the way. Was to hard to walk to.. x) at 23:30 we took the plane to Hawaii.
