DAY 3, ZANZIBAR
This day started with a fairly early morning with breakfast and then we headed out to the Spice Market. As soon as we entered the spice market we smelled a lot of spices. The whole place was quite hectic and a lot of people trying to lure you to their stands. One thing I realised was that they always go to the guy, never the girl. It is still in their culture that the guys pay (slowly getting better). You can say what you want about that, but I feel it’s great that people does not bother me, because it is completely different other places I been ^^ So we walked around the spices, fruits, electronics, fish and clothes for about an hour before we headed back to the hostel. Because the town is basically just a maze we walked around for about 40 minutes before finding the hotel. We walked through narrow streets, big streets, small squares etc etc. We were not in a hurry so we didn’t mind going wrong direction, it was quite nice just to walk 🙂
At 11:30 the bus was ready to go to our next destination, which was Sunset Kendwa Resort at the north side of the island. We knew that the bus drive should be around 1.5h long (because of the bad roads), what we didn’t know was that our guide got fined because he was not a local from Zanzibar so he needed to pay around $20 to be allowed to continue. We sat in the bus for quite some time before we even knew what was going on. I felt so bad for our tour guide when he was forced to leave our bus, ”But I haven’t done anything wrong..” This is very corrupted. But after a while he rejoined and we were off to our hotel. When we arrived we got greeted by an icy towel and a drink. Later we ate lunch and were off to a snorkelling and sunset cruise. The snorkelling was OK, not a lot of fish but it was nice to finally get into the water 😎 When it was time for the sunset we set sail and cruise around the beach. Sadly it was to cloudy so we didn’t see much..
When we got back we were all salty and sweaty, but Tobias and I decided to skip the shower before dinner and just buy a beer from the bar and sat at our nice porch. Our room is crazy nice! Even our tour guide got impressed and wanted to swap ^^ So after our beer we walked down to have dinner with the rest of the group and sat there, ate and had drinks with good company.
