DAY 5 – THE ARK TO LAKE NAKURU

Today was an early day, because we wanted to se the sunrise. The alarm rang at 5:50 an we were at the terrace at 6:00. Because of the high altitude the weather was quite cold (yes I’m a Swede in Africa and I can’t complain 😊). At around 7 the sun was almost fully up and it was time for breakfast.

At 8 it was time for us to say goodbye to the staff and they wished us a good trip as well as best wishes that the ongoing war is a short one and we’ll be safe. The trip back to the place we ate lunch was a combination of a little game drive and then the main road rest of the day. During the drive we had an interesting conversation with our driver where he talked a lot about Kenya and we shared some information about Sweden. He was very interested 😁

When we arrived at our lodge we were greeted by a super cute and friendly dog called Mila. Before we headed out for the game drive, we ate lunch and relaxed at the lodge with the five resident dogs 😊

During the game drive at Lake Nakuru National Park we saw a lot of animals. Not far into the park we saw a rhino chilling in the mud. And by that our Big Five was completed (not this trip but in general). Further into the park we came to the lake where a lot of pelicans and flamingos were. It seemed like they had one side each of the road 🙃 Not far from there we saw even more rhinos, this time a mother and a child. Casually eating not at all bothered by how close we were. Here we also saw a baby zebra that couldn’t be old, still had that fluffy baby fur 😍 In the end of the drive we stumbled on a lioness relaxing in the shadows, not minding how close we were. On the way back I randomly saw a tortoise just beside the road. At first I thought I was seeing things (because you don’t think you will see them in Africa and not beside a dusty road)

While back to the lodge it was time for dinner. It was really good and actually one of the top things we have eaten so far! We also had a table friend that was hoping we would ”accidentally drop something”. Before we went to bed we sat down with some locals and tour guides. Was very interesting to listen to them and share some of our stories as well 😄 One funny thing one said was that the Pink Busses was gods gift sent to earth (90% Swedish girls) 😂😅
