MILLENNIUM CAVE, VANUATU

So, this trip was amazing! 🤩

It started by picking us up at the hostel and took us to the office where we paid for the trip. Also we got an explanation of the tour and they also told us that most of it got to charity – building school for the kids and such.

Later we took the 4WD car to the first village. The roads were really bad but it was ok, because I sat in the front seat 🙂 The car ride took around 45 minutes.

At the village we started to hike for 20 min to the second village where we dropped off our things that we didn’t want to get wet. Gave the food we wanted to eat to the tour guide that had it in his own bag. Then we went for a 1.5 hike before we reached the cave. It had a cool big entrance and we started to climb inside. We got a torch and we needed to jump into the water with our hiking shoes and walked up and down the rocks in this quite fast flowing water for 30 min.

When we got out on the other side it was an small area that was surrounded by jungle and had like a rocky beach that was leading back to the cave. Here we sat down for lunch.

After that we jumped into the water and floated along the river away from the cave. This was a short but nice ”floating session” ^^ Funnily enough, I was the one complained the loudest of the coldness of the water. They told me that they thought I was a Swede 🙃

Later we did some Canyoning before we jumped into the river and floated. By now I was the one who thought that the water was nice and cool. I guess my body temperature had adapted and my Swedish blood was back to normal – everybody was shivering 😝 This was really cool! We floated in a crack between two cliffs and all covered in jungle. Just following the river 🙂 After a while we come to a waterfall that just is falling off one of the cliffs. We continue passed it and continue floating in this awesome surroundings 🤩

One thing that was quite funny was that the tour guide was holding the bag with the food with one hand over the surface. He also had a waterproof bag for some valuables that should not be wet.

When we arrive to the end of the floating part, we started to climb. It was very steep and sometimes we needed to use a rope or ladder to get up. After that we took a walk through a cow field before we ended up at the second village where we were greeted with some fruit and coffee/tea. Some kids were playing some kind of baseball with their hands and a chew toy. They seem to having a blast, and it was fun to watch them. After a while we headed back to the first village and then back to the hostel with the car. Super happy about the tour 😁

Though…. I wouldn’t recommend do this with a sprained toe.. Manageable but not optimal…. 😝
