KAVA BAR, VANUATU
After the Millennium Cave we decided to buy some beer and hang in the hostel. We also thought it would be fun to try kava at a kava bar. We walked a little in town (which is only a street) and almost everything was closed. When we went in to what seems like some kind of bottle shop and bought our beer, and asked where we could find kava. They told us to look for the blue light. A little vague but ok.. We walked alongside the road and didn’t really find anything. In the end of the road we saw a small road uphill and in the end of that road we saw a blue light. We thought ”could that be a kava bar?”. It was dark and no people, but we thought hey, let’s just check it out. We went up and a women came out and we asked her if that was a kava bar and she said yes. We went in, it was completely dark and you could hear guys spitting. We went to the bar and were very unsure if we should buy something or not. It was only locals there. And after a while a guy in our age came to us and helped us. Felt better when he was there and answered our questions and told us how to do things. We decided to emerge into the culture and bought a cup (it felt so much stronger than the one in Fiji 😮). But we just had one and decided to leave after. The whole thing didn’t really feel legal (but it is) because of the hush voices, dark surroundings and remote place 😝
