MZUZU AND KANDE, MALAWI

Today started as the other days; packing the tent, breakfast and then we were off. The scenery was once again beautiful, but unfortunately we sat on the wrong side of the bus, so we didn’t have Lake Malawi on our side, but we will tomorrow, so it is OK 😎

We did a stop at the city Mzuzu where our chef stocked up on groceries while we stocked up on snacks, water and drinks. Tobias and I also bought mosquito repellent for our tent and one for ourselves. They told us there should be a camp fire so all of us bought marshmallows 😛 We only going to be in Malawi for 3 days so we didn’t need that much money, but still some for small things like soveniers och small snacks. Problem was that neither Tobias nor I could withdraw any money. This we think was because we have Mastercard because the once with Visa didn’t have any problem. But the 4th ATM we tried worked x) There was some market that we wanted to check out so after we got our money we went there. It was quite busy and after a short while we decided to go back to the bus. We wanted to go to the toilet before but it costed. And when we tried to pay with our newly withdrawn money the bills were too big and we needed to find a way to split them. The were som guys outside our bus that tried to sell bracelets and paintings, usually they are quite annoying but this time they could be useful – especially because we wanted bracelets 🙂 we went straight to a guy and asked for the bracelets and suddenly we had two more guys that shoved their bracelets on me. First I ignored them but after a while (”try mine”, ”look at mine” etc) I told them to back off – actually pushed them. One listened but the other one was super annoying and didn’t stop. Told him I didn’t want anything from him but he didn’t cave. Anyway, we found two nice bracelets and after a little haggling we got two bracelets and the guy paid our toilet visit 😝 But even after we paid he didn’t back off so when we went to the toilet with the other guy I yelled to the other guy ”Tomorrow!”, he stopped and the first guy (while we was walking) said ”oh, so you’ll be back tomorrow?” I said to him ”no, I just wanted to get rid of him”. He thought it was hilarious and started to laugh. I don’t know if he ever had heard the other side of the tourists stories ^^ I liked him, he was not at all pushy and listened to what I wanted. We could get it for a better price when we talked to the other people in the group, but hey, it was still cheap ^^

When it was time to go we jumped on the bus again. While we were waiting for the chef to come back the guys still tried to sell paintings. It was quite funny listening to when they were haggling and another guy in our company “DREV” with the people in our group trying to haggle and the sellers 🙂 Later the chef came back and it was time to go again! When we arrived to our camp site at Kande we put up our tree, ate a late lunch and then jumped in to the lake, it was super nice! After that, local beer with our tour friends and playing Pass The Pig and card games.

Ended the day with dinner, bonfire and marshmallows + Smorse
