SNORKEL AND SUNRISE, BIG ISLAND – HAWAII

The day before yesterday we went on a snorkelling tour. We took a boat and went to the place James Cook arrived to Hawaii. On the way there, there where dolphins that played in the front of the boat and jumped in the waves the boat did. When we arrived we jumped in the water and started to snorkel. The visibility and snorkling was good, but after snorkelling at the Lagoonarium in Moorea you have high expectations

The same day (night to be honest) we went on another tour that took us to the volcano Mauna Kea to see the sunrise. Mauna Kea is 4181m and the highest mountain in the pacific (actually the world if you count under the sea level). The tour started at 2 in the night and we took the bus up to a visitor center where we could acclimate to the altitude. Here it was really cold and we needed to have thick jacket and warm clothes. After some warm chocolate/coffee we went in the bus and drove to the top. At the top we could see the sun starting to come up.

We spent the time there and saw a beautiful sunrise. 5-10 minutes after the sun had come over the clouds (yes, we were that high above the ground), we took the bus and drove the bus to the other side of the volcano. This was a really cool place. The shadow that the volcano casted looked like another mountain. Really cool 🙂

After this we drove down again and had breakfast at a deserted sheep station. We were back at our place around 9:30. We were quite tired so we took a nap ^^ at lunch time we went to a restaurant called Bubba Gump. Anyone recognise that name? It is the restaurant Forest Gump’s friend wanted to have in the movie 🙂 everything was inspired of the movie. The lunch was super good and we all were super happy. After this we went around in a shopping area which looked like a small wooden village. We also went to a local market where I bought a Hawaii inspired sarong 🙂

Today we are changing islands, next stop Oahu! This is the most popular island and where the capital of Hawaii is – Honolulu.
